The Peter Project Is Now Operating In Three Countries In Africa
I read an article recently which said, “We work because our Creator works, and we’re made in his image, to reflect him.” (Phillip Holmes). According to one Bible dictionary, God has infused “the act of work with meaning and divine significance, enjoining upon humans an obligation to engage in work even as God works.”
This really resonated with me as I read it since I had just recently been reflecting on how incredibly encouraging it is to see God bless the work of our hands. As we bear His image and do our work to His glory, so He blesses what we do.
I have certainly seen God blessing the work of the Peter Project.
The Start of the Peter Project Initiative in South Africa
Although our home base is in Cape Town, South Africa, we’ve not had the opportunity to start the Peter Project Initiative in our home country. Our efforts so far have been focused on the rest of Africa.
This recently changed when I met two men, one in his early 30’s and the other in his early 70’s, who are both wanting to serve the Lord and have no Biblical training. They attend a small church in Greyton , a small town about an hour’s drive from our home in Cape Town.
I’ll be overseeing their training which will, in turn, equip them to train others. This new development marks the start of the Peter Project Initiative in the third country in Africa - Ghana, Zimbabwe and now South Africa.
It’s been our prayer and part of our long term strategy to take this ministry wherever there is a need in Africa. Please will you join us in praying for this new beginning in Greyton, Western Cape, South Africa?
Update on our Recent Trip to Zimbabwe
Joanne and I recently returned from a survey trip to Zimbabwe where we met with a group of eleven believers who are wanting to start a local church but who have no leader. I’ll be working with this group of men and will initially be giving them some foundational Bible teaching.
The plan is to travel to Zimbabwe every second month until the end of the year to complete this initial foundational instruction in the Scriptures. After this process we I’ll be able to identify potential leaders who I will then train to lead the rest through the two-year Bible College Program. It is a slow but necessary step as many of these believers come from diverse theological backgrounds, which is very common here in Africa.
Please will you pray for this group and for my teaching trips to Zimbabwe. I’ll be leaving for Zimbabwe on the 5th May for the next round of teaching.
Exciting Developments in Ghana
I recently spoke with Pastor Mathew Yennaah, (Director of the Peter Project Initiative in Ghana), who shared that one student currently undergoing training has planted a new church in his village. Another student has also expressed his desire to go into full-time ministry and will be planting a church in his village in the coming weeks.
This was such an encouragement to me and I pray is for you too. This is why we serve the Lord in these places and do what we do. “God has infused this act of work with meaning and divine significance” - His meaning and His significance!
