Only God can do that…

Have you even been in a situation where the outcome has wildly exceeded all your expectations? Where, when you stand back and take stock, all you can say is “Only God could have done that!”

This was certainly my experience after my recent trip to the West African country of Ghana in  June.

This was my third visit to Ghana. but my first being picked up from the airport in a Tro-Tro (also known as Tuk Tuks in other parts of the world.) The word Tro-Tro means Yellow-Yellow in the Ghanaian language of Waalii, and so called because of the colour of most of these small three-wheeled vehicles. Needless to say, it was a unique experience for me.

During my week in Wa with Pastor Mathew, I was able to see first hand the amazing things that the Lord is doing there through the ministry of The Peter Project Initiative.

As you’re aware, the Peter Project Initiative is a ministry that we began in 2020 with the goal of providing accessible and affordable Bible College training to men in remote areas of Africa who previously had no access to such training.

Since our launch, the program has expanded to four centres in the Wa region. I was able to visit each of these centres, and saw first hand the amazing results of this ministry.

Students in each of the four centres are taught by two teachers and meet twice a week. The eight teachers received training in 2020 when we began the program.

Four Training Centers

  1. Zambogu

The first center I visited is in Zambogu Village, where 5 students are currently studying Bible Doctrine Survey and Personal Spiritual Life. I was so encouraged to meet two of the students, Elvis Wanye and Emmanuel Boye, who have recently planted churches in their home villages which they are now pastoring.

This is what the Peter Project Initiative is all about - churches being planted as a result of the accessibility and affordability of a sound Bible College education for those who were previously denied this.

Please pray for these two men as they complete their studies and lead these new churches.

2. Kparisaga

The second center I visited was in Kparisaga Village, close to the city of Wa. Here, eight students are being taught by a father and son team, Pastor Paul Dagbee and Pastor Isaac Molonaa.

3. Kanyinguasi

In Kanyinguasi Village, Pastor Mathew Yennaah and Pastor Nathan Kanyiri are teaching a class of six students. These men meet each week to enthusiastically study the word of God as they prepare for full-time ministry.

4. Takpo

The last class I visited is the newest addition and is situated in the village of Takpo, about 32km from the city of Wa. Thirteen students attend this class and are currently studying Bible Study Methods and Rules of Interpretation as well as Old Testament Survey.

Again, I was so encouraged to meet five pastors, who have been leading churches for some time, but who have had no previous Bible Training. When I asked them why they had not attended Bible School previously, they all answered that they could not afford to do so.

This is why we started the Peter Project Initiative

We started this project to reach men like these around Africa. It has been estimated that approximately 82% of churches in Africa are led by men who have received no formal Bible Training.

After a very full week of visiting these classes, meeting with the teachers, preaching and teaching, conducting a youth outreach and teaching a Seminar,  I made my way back to Cape Town exhausted but encouraged and thankful for all that I had seen. Indeed, the Lord has done, “…exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen”

It is through your partnership with us, through your prayer and financial support, that we are currently able to provide access to a Bible College education to men in three different African countries - Ghana, Zimbabwe and South Africa. Our goal is to expand this to other countries as the Lord opens doors.

Thank you for your vital partnership in this work.

Due to the expansion of the Project in Zimbabwe and Ghana, our funds are running low. It costs approximately $250 to put a student through the two year program and funding is also needed to travel to these countries to oversee the training taking place.

If you would like to be a part of this important and much needed ministry, please consider either making a one time donation or becoming a regular monthly donor. Please clearly designate your donation “The Peter Project Fund”. Simply click this link or the button below to donate to the project.

Thank you for faithfully journeying with us over many years. Please remember to pray for us and for the Peter Project Initiative.

Onward and Upward!
